Kevin Young is an American Poet and teacher who has grasped the title of Jazz poet and various other categories. Here is the first link to Poetry Foundation's page about Kevin Young. This provides good insight to pieces written by Kevin Young and his background including his education at Harvard, Stanford, and Brown University. Kevin Young has grown in popularity over the past years and coming from a strong background of education, his audience is only rising. This page also briefly talks about the style of writing found when reading Kevin's poems. He is a Jazz poet. His poems have a musical rhythm ingrained in them. The poem has the feeling of a verse or contemporary Jazz song that makes one bob their head. He is also described as a poet using unusual wording for his poems. While maintaining his poetic song, he uses wording and schemes that can be abstract from what one would expect to see.

Some of his works include seven books, editor of eight, and anthologies. Kevin has received multiple awards in poetry and has continued to wow his audience with his poetry. This page gives a look into the poetic life of Kevin giving short description of each book/poem. Kevin's The Grey Album: On the Blackness of Blackness has named a New York Times Notable Book for 2012 and was named an Editors' Choice. Kevin's success is poetry comes from his ability to write poems that people can feel. His style really encompasses a beat and almost lyric to them. While his poetry is not extremely easy to read or light hearted, it does captivate its readers about tough subjects in a sense of rhythm.
